FUNDRAISER & SCHOLARSHIPS

We believe education is the key to empowering youth in disadvantaged communities. Our mission is to provide equal access to education and especially to motivate girls to continue with their education after primary school. Our Fundraising Campaign complements our “Another Kind of Christmas” project in Kenya. The purpose is to ensure the long-term impact of this camp giving girls and women financial resources to continue with their education.

Secondary School Scholarships
for Girls

Due to the lack of high school infrastructure in Turkana, children must move to another town to continue their education after primary school. This involves expenses that Turkana families can’t afford, making secondary education completely dependent on external funding.

Cultural barriers, child marriage and the lack of female role models influence the interest and motivation of girls to continue with their education. Less than 10% of the sponsored children in Turkana are girls.

We want to change this in 2 ways

  • Scholarships, so that every girl that wants to continue her education can do it

  • Personal support for each girl in her educational journey through our leadership camps and 1:1 mentoring.

Since 2023 we have awarded 12 full secondary school scholarships (4 years including tuition, accommodation and meals) to Turkana girls. We are determined to continue giving this opportunity to more girls each year.

Meet our Girls

SARAFINA

Sarafina’s family comes from Nachukui village in Turkana North sub county. She is the 4th of 8 children and her mother sells fire wood for survival. With this humble background, the family is unable to take her to school.

MIRIAM

Miriam is the 4th child in a family of 5 girls. Her father is married to 3 wives, and of all the children, Miriam is the only one now in school. The entire family live a pastoralist kind of life and keep migrating from area to area in search of water pastures. This is due to a prolongued drought period in Turkana.

MARGARET & DEBORAH

Margaret and Deborah come from a family of 8. They lost their eldest brother and later also lost their father in a car accident. They have been raised by their mother who earns very little by making baskets to feed the family.

Deborah is an adopted child of this family since her mother is disabled and cannot care for her.

Entrepreneurship for Women

The "Women Entrepreneurship" project empowers women without formal education with the fundamental skills to run a beadwork business, including inventory management, accounting, and planning.

Through this initiative, we expand their horizons, motivate them to learn, make them feel recognized, and enable them to earn an income on their own.

With our 2024 Fundraiser, we funded a beadwork trainer, along with the initial materials. Our dedicated team of volunteers and missionaries continues to work to ensure the growth of this project.

Christmas Caravan

Christmas is a very special time of the year and a time of sharing, especially with those most in need. Our Christmas Caravan wants to bring joy to some of the most marginalized families in Kenya.

The Christmas Caravan includes food supplies, school materials such as pencils or notebooks, or sports materials like footballs.
In 2023 a special Caravan provided 980 new text books for all subjects to the primary schools of Kokuselei and Riokomor.
